Ways to Relieve Nasal Congestion

Nasal congestion and hay fever symptoms can be effectively addressed through a home remedy known as nasal lavage. This is a method that entails the cleaning out of the sinuses using saline solution (which is simply a solution of salt and water). You can use a bulb-style syringe to clean out your sinuses with saline, you can also try utilizing a neti pot, wherein you pour a small amount of saline solution into your nostrils and afterwards spit the solution out.

Face Masks

If you regularly are exposed to airborne allergens, then it is best to wear a face mask when you go out every day. Even at home, you may need to wear a face mask if you are cleaning and dusting your home. One particular face mask called a mist and dust respirator is quite helpful not only for doing housecleaning but also for outdoor purposes that keeps you exposed to allergens like pollen.

Pet Dander Solution

The best way to avoid allergies caused by your pet’s dander is by making your bedroom a “no trespassing zone” for the pet. You can designate duties such as grooming, bathing and feeding your pet to other members of your family who are not allergic to the pet.

Regular Wash of Bedding

Make your bedroom as clean as possible to prevent suffering from any kind of allergy reaction. Allergy control and protection is very much important in the room where you sleep. The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America recommends that for at least once a week, you need to wash in hot water (around 103 degrees Fahrenheit) your stuffed toys, uncovered pillows, bedding and mattresses. Never lie down or sleep on pillows and bedding that cannot be washed at home or that harbor dust. You can buy synthetic pillows, comforters or a dust-proof plastic cover for your mattress.

Bleach

To effectively kill molds in your home, use bleach. You can rid of all molds in your household appliances, walls, floors and bathroom floors by just wiping them with a bleach solution containing a gallon of water mixed with three quarters of bleach.  After applying the beach mixture, allow for five minutes before you rinse them with water.

Hard Flooring

It is especially hard to rid your carpet of mold, pet dander and dust mites since these things cling to soft surfaces in vise-like grips. Steam cleaning your carpet can make these allergens even more hazardous to your health since the steam makes the carpet moist enabling the mold and dust mites to thrive. If you allergic to these factors, then you may need to switch to hard flooring and use setting throw rugs that are washable instead. If you decide to stick with carpets then make sure you avail of a vacuum cleaner fitted with a HEPA filter.

HEPA Filtration Device

A HEPA or high-efficiency particulate air filtering device is especially effective in filtering out airborne allergens. This device traps these allergens via a fine screen. You can either buy a HEPA filtration device for all the often used rooms in your home or buy one and transfer it on the room you are in.

Air Conditioning

For pollen allergies, air conditioning is one of the most effective ways to prevent this type of allergen from affecting you. Air conditioning also helps keep mold and dust mites under control. It is a very good way to filter airborne allergens especially if you have an air cleaner installed.
